An 1803 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword By Osborn & Gunby, Sword Cutlers To His Majesty, The Hon.ble Board Of Ordnance & The Hon.ble East India Company, Birm.m & Pall Mall, London, Early 19th Century With curved blade double-edged towards the point and etched along most of its length along one side with maker's details, designs of foliage involving a grotesque mask above a monument, and along the other inscribed 'WARRANTED', further designs of foliage, a martial trophy and a draped vase, regulation ormolu hilt (some wear to gilding), the knuckle-guard with crowned 'GR' cypher surmounted by a bugle horn suspended on a ribbon, a ring for a tassel above, lion-head pommel and back-piece in one, and ribbed dark horn grip bound with twisted copper wire, in its ormolu scabbard retaining much of its original gilding, and with two rings for suspension; together with further ormolu scabbard (old dents and damage) with two rings for suspension (2) 71.2 cm. blade Footnotes: For more information regarding Henry Osborn, in partnership with John Gunby from about 1805, see Leslie Southwick, London Silver-hilted Swords..., 2001, pp. 189-90 For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
